Toda Hiromatsu (The iron fist) is a character in Shōgun, part of Toranaga's Court. Toda Hiromatsu — 'Iron Fist' — has carried his sword in Toranaga's service for a lifetime: general, counselor, and the only man at court who scolds his lord to his face. Father-in-law to Mariko, devoted past argument, he measures every choice against an older code than politics. Hiromatsu's loyalty is the absolute kind, which is to say the kind that may one day be spent rather than merely given.
