Gen — short for Hydrogen, the only thing that existed when she was born — is the eternal Judge who arbitrates between the Good and Bad Places from a chambers outside time, where she binge-watches Earth television and once deliberated opposite a burrito she assumed was a petitioner. Whimsical, terrifyingly powerful and procedurally rigorous in roughly that order, the Judge hears the cockroaches' appeal that the afterlife's points system is broken — and sets the tests on which every soul on Earth ends up riding.
