Finan (The Irishman from the slave ship) is a character in The Last Kingdom, part of Uhtred's Household. Finan met Uhtred at an oar — two slaves rowing a trader's ship through a winter that should have killed them — and walked off it as the first member of the household: the laughing Irish swordsman whose past (a lordship, a brother, an exile he doesn't discuss) stays buried until it doesn't. Finan is the crew's heart and its best blade after Uhtred's, the keeper of morale on every doomed march, and the friendship the entire series banks on.
