Who is Leofric in The Last Kingdom?
The Wessex soldier who named him 'arseling' · Wessex & the Church
Leofric (The Wessex soldier who named him 'arseling') is a character in The Last Kingdom, part of Wessex & the Church. Leofric commands Alfred's household troops with a veteran's economy of words, most of them profane — the first Saxon to see past Uhtred's Dane swagger to the useful soldier underneath, and the author of his court name: arseling. Their friendship is the show's warmest — forged in shield walls, tested by a forced single combat neither wants — and Leofric's blunt soldier's catechism (fight, drink, swear, die well) is Wessex at its most likable.
