Who is Dream in The Sandman?
Morpheus — lord of the realm we visit nightly · The Endless
Dream (Morpheus — lord of the realm we visit nightly) is a character in The Sandman, part of The Endless. Dream of the Endless — Morpheus, Oneiros, a dozen older names — rules the realm every sleeper visits, and begins the series captured: a century naked in a glass sphere, taken by an occultist who was fishing for Death. Freed at last, he finds his kingdom derelict, his tools scattered and his pride intact — the problem, as his siblings would testify. The series is Dream's slow, resisted education: a being older than gods learning that rules he wrote can be rewritten, and that change, for an Endless, is the one true horror — and the only door out.
