Livia Soprano (The mother) is a character in The Sopranos, part of Soprano Household. Livia Soprano has spent a lifetime weaponizing helplessness: a black hole of grievance who answers every kindness with martyrdom and every boundary with sabotage. Tony moves her into a gleaming retirement community — 'a nursing home,' she pronounces, like a verdict — and she sets about punishing him for it. Smiling-faced acquaintances call her difficult. Dr. Melfi will eventually use a different word.
