Queen Calanthe (The Lioness of Cintra) is a character in The Witcher, part of Cintra & Nilfgaard. Queen Calanthe won her first battle at Hochebuz before most rulers win an argument — the Lioness of Cintra, who drinks at banquets in armor still bloody and dares the room to mention it. She has defied prophecy, suitors, and the Brotherhood with equal relish, and guards her granddaughter Ciri like the crown jewel she is. When Nilfgaard comes, Calanthe's last commands are a queen's: hold the walls, and when the walls fail, get the child out.
